Toyota Production Method

The heart and soul of the Toyota Production Method (“TPM”) is focused on two broad-based views: being Process-Oriented and People-Focused. Those two statements also are at the heart and soul of our practical, hands-on process-improvement training program. Measurable Management™ takes the key technical concepts of proven problem-solving skills, and matches those up with practical skill-building experience in relational aptitude: improved listening and leadership which increases trust and sets the stage for robust improved results. Often time organizations can have amazing technical tools to solve problems, but lack the relational skills or a culture to have employees take an “ownership” perspective over their resources, relationships and processes. Measurable Management™ does just that.

The Toyota Production Method ties closely with a Lean Transformation. Its focus is on rigorous process analysis and measurement of results. It uses Lean tools, such as Standardized Work Processes (standardizing work processes where it has an impact on Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost or People), 5S (which can have various meanings including Standardize, Sort, Self-Discipline, Sweep and Straighten, or Set in Order, Sort, Shine, Standardize and Sustain). These are both ways to drive out waste in our processes, add more value, and have tools to ensure quality, while at the same time increasing safety, quality and productivity, and reducing costs.

Let me be clear, using our practical hands-on process-improvement training program is not the same as a full blow Lean Transformation. However, our program, Measurable Management™ can be used to accomplish several objectives for those organizations that are considering Lean/TPM, or those that are using Lean/TPM. For those that are considering Lean/TPM your participants will get experience at formally evaluating processes and making improvements (Kaizen) to them. In a Lean Transformation you would typically hold most areas of your organization accountable to using the tools and concepts of Lean/TPM. For our training program just those initial participants (typically 10-15 front-line managers) are experiencing the process, along with their teams as they involve them in problem solving. For those organizations on a Lean/TPM transformation, the Measurable Management™ training program can give needed relational skills and experience to team members who might be doing well at the technical aspects of Lean, but who need assistance with the “People-Focused” elements.
